Makayla Poston, a hairdresser and colorist from Birmingham, said: “Я лично очень хотела бы, чтобы тренд calico hair наконец покинул сцену. Почти каждое фото для вдохновения, которое мне приносят, сгенерировано ИИ или отредактировано так, чтобы не было видно, как рыжий цвет затекает в блонд”.
The Viral Calico Problem
Makayla Poston, a hairdresser and colorist based in Birmingham, singled out the calico hair trend as her least favorite style. Calico coloring went viral on TikTok, inspired by the multicolored patches of tortoiseshell cats and relying on high-contrast techniques that mix several shades together.
Poston stated in Southern Living that nearly every inspiration photo clients bring in is either generated by artificial intelligence or digitally edited to hide how the red color bleeds into the blonde. She added that upkeep after the initial salon visit grows intensely complex, taking hours and feeling nearly impossible to maintain.
Silver Shades and Structural Damage
Silver and metallic gray hair face a similar backlash from stylists who refuse to spend hours battling undertones.
Gwyneth Morales stated that silver styles should leave the scene by 2027, explaining that achieving true silver requires bleaching hair until every trace of yellow vanishes. Morales noted that silver dyes rely on a blue base, which can turn hair into a muddy, swampy green when mixed with yellow pigments. The heavy bleaching process strips moisture, leaving strands dry, porous, and brittle, while roots and toners demand constant refreshing every four weeks.
The Dark-Rooted Blonde Debate
Meanwhile, colorist Haley Overton wants clients to step away from ultra-natural, dark-rooted blonde looks and embrace brighter roots.
Overton argued in Southern Living that the demand for low-maintenance styles has blinded clients to the benefits of a freshly updated shade. She noted that salon visits every four to eight weeks actually preserve both hair health and wallet stability over time, as maintaining a steady blonde is simpler than repairing hair after months of neglect.
Seasonal Contrasts Ahead of 2027
In contrast, broader seasonal beauty guides from outlets such as Dzen.ru point toward softer trends for the winter 2026–2027 season, favoring warm honey, cashmere beige, and dimensional almond-brown tones designed to reflect light and enhance natural features.
