KUALA LUMPUR – Excitement and nerves are swirling for rising badminton star Cheng Su Yin as she prepares for her debut at the prestigious 2025 Malaysia Open. The tournament,held at the Axiata Arena from January 7-12,marks a notable milestone in the 21-year-old’s career.
“Definitely excited and hope we can play better and maintain our performance,” Su Yin shared during a recent training session at the Akademi Badminton malaysia (ABM) in Bukit Kiara.
Su yin will team up with Hoo Pang Ron, and the duo secured their spot in the Badminton World federation (BWF) World Tour 2025 opener after achieving a remarkable 21st place ranking in the world. This accomplishment, fueled by a string of impressive performances throughout the year, including a runner-up finish at the China Masters in November, has set the stage for their malaysia Open debut.
“The other pairs would have read our game by now, so we need too raise our performance,” Su Yin added, acknowledging the increasing pressure and scrutiny that comes with their newfound success.
Pang Ron echoed his partner’s sentiments, expressing a shared ambition to break into the world’s top 10 rankings in the coming year.
“I think it’s possible but I feel, maybe, we are not there yet,” Pang Ron admitted. “We still need some time as you cannot go from zero to 100 in just a short period.”
The pair understands the journey requires dedication and patience. “So, we hope we go step by step and take it one match at a time. If we fight hard and get the desired results, then the ranking will take care of itself,” Pang Ron concluded.
