Brazil Wins Against Ecuador in 2026 World Cup Qualifier
MONTEVIDEO (Reuters) – Brazil secured a 1-0 victory against Ecuador in a South American qualifier for the 2026 World Cup, co-hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico, on Saturday.
The opening goal was scored in the 30th minute of the first half, with an assist from Lucas Paqueta, who then scored a goal from Rodrigo. Brazil held on to this lead, earning their second win in the qualifying rounds.
Uruguay drew with Paraguay without a goal. Uruguay’s forward Luis Suarez (37) played his 143rd international match, bringing an end to his 17-year career with the national team.
Colombia played against Peru and conceded the opening goal in the 23rd minute of the second half, but Luis Diaz scored an equalizer in the 37th minute, resulting in a 1-1 draw.
Colombia is in third place with 12 points after six games, Brazil is in sixth place with seven points after six games, and Argentina is in first place with 18 points after seven games.
