Weilheim, Germany – A recent open day at the local health department provided a wealth of information and activities for attendees of all ages.

Under the banner Health for everyone – experience, discover, participate!
the Weilheim health department welcomed the public to its open day. The event coincided with the nationwide Day of the health Office
on March 19, commemorating the 280th birthday of Johann Peter Frank, considered the founder of public hygiene and socio-medical health services.
Local officials, including District Administrator Andrea Jochner-Weiß and Health Officer dr. Stefan Günther, greeted visitors, including children involved in health campaigns.Jochner-Weiß expressed gratitude to the health department team for their hard work in organizing the event.
The open house featured various interactive stations. Visitors could experience simulations of life with conditions such as Parkinson’s disease, blindness, or paralysis through a consciousness case
and wheelchair course.
A photo exhibition illustrated everyday barriers faced by people with disabilities. A exhibition using a special lamp showed the effectiveness of hand disinfection techniques.
Open Day Deemed a Success
The event offered mini-health checks,including blood pressure and blood sugar measurements,alongside information on self-help resources,midwife services,organ donation,pregnancy counseling,sex education,and health promotion programs. A sensory course allowed visitors to test their senses, while a small circus area provided entertainment for younger guests.
Information on dental and skin health, hearing and eye tests, and healthy snacks were also available. Attendees could participate in yoga and movement sessions led by Claudia Sontheimer.
A lecture programme featured Dr. Georg Carl, deputy head of the health department, discussing the department’s responsibilities, and Dr.Stefan Günther speaking about travel health.
