Sudanese epic poet Hashim Siddique has died at the age of 67

The Sudanese poet, Hashim Siddiq, known as the “epic poet”, passed away from our world last Saturday evening in Abu Dhabi, the capital of the Emirates, Al-Hadat Al-Sudani newspaper explained that the cause of death of the Sudanese poet, Hashim Siddiq, was his mental health problems which Plagued him in recent years, until his health deteriorated and he regularly visited the hospital.
Hashem Siddique was born in the eastern Omdurman area in 1957. He began his studies in Omdurman and then moved to the Higher Music and Theater Institute, where he graduated in 1974 with a bachelor’s degree in theater criticism with an excellent grade.
Later, he traveled to the United Kingdom to study acting and directing at the East 15 Acting School, Hashim worked as a professor at the Higher Music and Theater Institute until 1995 and established the Sudanese Theater Library, which included a rich archive of literature. and artistic works that are considered a reference for future generations.
One of his most prominent works is “The Story of a Revolution” or “The Epic”, the most famous operetta in Sudanese history, composed by the artist, musician Muhammad Al-Amin, and became a milestone. History of Sudanese art, the first successful experience in the art of choral music singing in Sudan.
Among his most famous plays are the play “Ahlam al-Zaman”, which won the National Award for Best Drama Script in 1973, as well as “My Sweetheart’s Plant”, which won the Literary Script Award in 1974. Many radio and television series that have simulated the concerns of Sudanese society and raised its issues.
Hashim’s poetry greatly influenced Sudanese artists as major artists such as Muhammad al-Amin, Mustafa Said Ahmed, Abu Arqi al-Bakhit and Sayyed Khalifa sang to him.
