Sudan’s Shadow of Fear: How Arbitrary Arrests and Sham Trials Silence Human Rights Heroes
ACJPS Condemns Arbitrary Arrests and Solitary Confinement in Sudan
The African Center for Justice and Peace Studies (ACJPS) strongly condemns the continued use of arbitrary arrests and solitary confinement of Sudanese citizens by the security services amid the ongoing conflict.
Human rights defenders and activists have been targeted by the warring parties, who use these tactics to obstruct their work and silence their voices. The ACJPS is deeply concerned about the safety and security of prisoners, who are often held in unknown locations without access to lawyers or their families.
The lack of access to legal representation and the well-documented use of torture and other forms of ill-treatment expose prisoners to serious risk of human rights abuses. The ACJPS urges the Sudanese authorities to respect the rights of all citizens, including those in detention, and to ensure that they are treated in accordance with international human rights standards.
