JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com – President of Indonesia prabowo Subianto’s decision to revoke the business licenses of 28 companies proven to have violated forestry regulations in three provinces of Sumatra is an initial step towards rectifying problematic forest areas.
The activities of these companies are said to have contributed to various disasters in Sumatra.
Even though the business licenses have been revoked, the government’s efforts do not stop there.
The government must still prepare subsequent stages to ensure environmental recovery, the rearrangement of forest areas, and law enforcement for the violations that occurred.
KLH assures operations have ceased
The Ministry of Surroundings and Forestry (KLH) assures that the 28 companies whose licenses were revoked for causing disasters in Sumatra are now no longer operating.
“Currently, with the revocation (of their licenses), they are no longer operating,” said the Secretary of the Ministry of Environment and Forestry, Rosa Vivien Ratnawati, in a press conference at her office on Wednesday (21/1/2026).
KLH is currently preparing a Strategic Environmental Assessment (KLHS) to determine the next steps in land management after the licenses of the 28 companies were revoked.
Vivien said the KLHS aims to map the current environmental conditions, including identifying areas that have been damaged and formulating a recovery scheme.
KLH also assures that the government will take over
