Summer McIntosh Eyes Historic Haul at World Aquatics Championships
Singapore – Canadian swimming sensation Summer McIntosh is poised to make history at the World Aquatics Championships in Singapore, with the 17-year-old aiming for an unprecedented five individual gold medals.This ambitious target places her in elite company, with only Michael Phelps having achieved such a feat at the 2007 Melbourne championships.
A Dominant Force in Freestyle
McIntosh’s confidence is palpable, particularly heading into the 400m freestyle, an event where she is the clear favorite. Her training partner, Fred, has been instrumental in her advancement. “He has really pushed me to the next level in my freestyle,” McIntosh shared.”And having endurance to finish an 800m has definitely also helped my 400m freestyle,so I’m super pumped for the 400m freestyle.”
The young phenom is also excited about the challenge of doubling up in events. “I’m also really excited to see how I manage doing the double,” she added, hinting at her versatility and determination.

McIntosh currently holds a significant two-second led over American legend Katie Ledecky in the world rankings for the 400m freestyle. Ledecky herself holds the record for the most individual golds by a woman at a single championship, with four titles won in Kazan in 2015. McIntosh is aware of the ancient importance of her potential achievements but remains grounded.
“I have expectations and goals, which is to get as many golds as possible,” McIntosh stated. “A good motivation for me is to put on a show, that is the energy I channeled going into the Olympic games and keeping the sport exciting and fun. The goal is always to win and be at my best and reach my full potential, whatever that looks like, I’m not sure yet.”
