Updated June 06, 2025
the Des Moines Public Library (DMPL) is launching its annual Summer Reading Challenge this Saturday, offering programs for both adults and children. The summer reading initiative aims to promote literacy and a love of books throughout the community. All six DMPL locations will host the kickoff, and online registration is available at dmpl.org.
Adults can participate in “Camp Read S’more,” designed to encourage reading and serve as a positive example for kids. Participants can track their progress using reading logs, available at any DMPL location or online. Completing the reading challenge earns participants prizes and a chance to win a Camp Read S’more tote bag.
Children’s programs also feature prizes for reaching reading goals.
