For many,summer once meant escaping to tropical locales or exploring vibrant cities. However, in 2025, a new reality is setting in as families grapple with the rising costs of travel. The dream vacation is becoming a luxury fewer can afford, impacting affordable travel for many.
Despite social media feeds showcasing seemingly endless travel adventures, a recent LendingTree survey reveals a different story. More than half of Americans are cutting back on travel due to financial constraints. Wanderlust is clashing with financial survival, leaving many unable to prioritize vacations.

Matt Schulz, LendingTree chief consumer finance analyst, said that high prices and tariff concerns are causing many Americans to delay vacation plans until the economic outlook stabilizes.
”Prices are still high for so many things, and many Americans are concerned the implementation of tariffs will only make things worse,” Schulz said. “Those concerns are spurring many people to proceed with caution, delaying bigger expenses such as vacations until things seem more steady.”
Consequently, economic necessity is driving Americans to choose domestic destinations. A weaker dollar and increased costs have made European adventures financially out of reach for most.
