Sunday Slowdown: Your Guide to Santiago’s Traffic Disruptions and Detours on September 8
The traffic cuts will last from 8:00am to 3:00pm this Sunday.
Due to the traditional pilgrimage to the General Cemetery for the remembrance and memory of the victims of Augusto Pinochet’s dictatorship, a series of traffic disruptions and diversions in the Metropolitan Region will occur this Sunday, September 8.
Traffic cuts will extend from 08:00 to 15:00 so that attendees can move without problems from the intersection of Alameda and Teatinos.
Commander Rodrigo Pérez Mujica, 32nd Traffic Police Station, explained that the detours will mainly affect Alameda and the northern area of Santiago, affecting both collective transport and private vehicles.
Traffic Cuts for the Pilgrimage to the General Cemetery this Sunday, September 8
Eastbound Traffic
- Public Transport: Via Alameda to the east will be diverted to Avenida España to the south. It will continue along Avenida Blanco Encalada and Avenida Matta to the east, and join Avenida Providencia via Avenida Seminario to the north.
- Private Vehicles: Via Alameda to the east will be diverted through Almirante Latorre to the south. They will continue along Avenida Blanco Encalada and Avenida Matta to the east; to join towards the Alameda via Santa Rosa.
Westbound Traffic
- Public Transport: Via Providencia Avenue to the west will be diverted by Salvador Avenue to the south. It will continue along the axes of Avenida Francisco Bilbao, Curicó, Tarapacá and Vidaurre to the west; where it will join the Alameda via Vergara to the north.
- Private Vehicles: Via Providencia Avenue to the west will be diverted by Salvador Avenue to the south, and continue west via Marín and Sazié. they will join towards Alameda via Vergara.
Southbound Traffic
- Public Transport: Via Avenida Recoleta to the south, it will be diverted by Avenida Dorsal to the west, and it will continue along Avenida Fermín Vivaceta to the south.
- Private Vehicles: Via Avenida Recoleta will be diverted by México and Santa Laura to the west, and join through Avenida Independencia to the south.
Northbound Traffic
- As an alternative to Avenida Recoleta, public transport and private vehicles will be able to travel via Avenida Perú and Avenida El Salto to the north, to connect to Avenida Recoleta via Avenida Einstein to the west.
