British Boy’s Near-Death Experience After Using Expired Sunscreen
A 10-year-old British boy, Hector Harvey, suffered severe symptoms after applying sunscreen, leading to his hospitalization for surgery, as reported by the Daily Mail.
Hector was on a family vacation in Cape Verde when disaster struck on the last day of their trip. After running out of sunscreen, his family purchased a new bottle from their hotel’s shop, unaware of the potential consequences.
Thirty minutes after applying the new sunscreen, Hector played in the pool at a scorching 29 degrees Celsius. Upon returning, he began to feel extremely hot and developed 8 cm-sized blisters on his chest, arms, and shoulders.
Hector’s Hospitalization
Upon returning to Britain, Hector’s parents contacted the National Health Service for assistance, and he was admitted to Nottingham Medical Center for surgery to open and clean the blisters.
Natalie Harvey, Hector’s mother, revealed that doctors suspected the sunscreen might have been expired or counterfeit. She explained that they had run out of sunscreen on the last day of their trip and purchased a new bottle from the hotel, assuming it would be safe to use.
Hector’s Visible Injuries
Upon arrival at the airport, Hector showed signs of drowsiness and had a red face. His mother applied aloe vera to help cool him down, but the damage had already been done.
