Super Bowl LX: Seahawks Win, Wild Entrances & a Real Wedding!

by David Thompson - Sports Editor

There is nothing grander in American sport than the Super Bowl.

The most important match of the NFL season crowns a champion, but also provides eye-catching moments on and off the field. The Seattle Seahawks claimed victory in Super Bowl LX, defeating the New England Patriots 29-13, but the score doesn’t fully capture the narrative of a compelling contest.

Patriot Arrives Dressed as a Prisoner

The Super Bowl is the biggest stage in the NFL to make a statement, and New England Patriots wide receiver Mack Hollins certainly did that before the game even began. The 32-year-old arrived at Levi’s Stadium dressed in a prison jumpsuit, complete with shackles on his hands and ankles. The jumpsuit bore the inscription “Range 13” on the back, a possible reference to the highest security wing at the ADX Florence supermax prison in Colorado. Hollins completed the look with a face mask, carrying a football jersey during the entrance. It was a memorable entrance, to say the least.

Dickson’s Boot Proves Vital for Seattle

Australians tuning in on Monday morning had reason to cheer, as Sydneysider Michael Dickson delivered an outstanding performance as Seattle’s punter. Dickson averaged 47.86 yards on seven punts, with a long of 55 yards. More importantly, three of his punts were downed inside the New England 10-yard line, consistently pinning the Patriots deep in their own territory. With the game tied 6-0 late in the first half, Seattle opted to punt on 4th and 5 at midfield, trusting Dickson to flip the field. He delivered, with a punt that went out of bounds at the Patriots’ two-yard line. In the fourth quarter, with Seattle leading 19-7, Dickson’s punt was downed inside the New England five-yard line, setting up a crucial interception that effectively sealed the victory. Dickson became the second Australian to be part of a Super Bowl-winning team, following Jordan Mailata of the Philadelphia Eagles last year.

A Wedding During Bad Bunny’s Half-Time Show

The Super Bowl half-time show, featuring Bad Bunny, provided a spectacle beyond the music. During his performance, Bad Bunny facilitated a wedding on stage, presenting a ring to a man who then proposed to a woman. The couple were later married during the show, with Lady Gaga appearing as a guest performer. According to NBC reporter Rohan Nadkarni, the wedding was legitimate. A source familiar with the performance confirmed that the couple had invited Bad Bunny to their wedding, and he, in turn, invited them to get married during his show. The Associated Press reported that Bad Bunny signed the marriage certificate as a witness, and even the wedding cake was real.

Another Maye Has a Nightmare Super Bowl

While the half-time show offered a surprising moment of romance, the game itself proved a difficult night for New England Patriots quarterback Drake Maye. Coming off a season where he narrowly missed out on the NFL MVP award, Maye faced a relentless Seattle defense. He was sacked six times and committed three turnovers in the fourth quarter. The Seahawks’ defensive pressure consistently disrupted Maye’s rhythm, and a key sack in the fourth quarter led to a turnover and a Seattle touchdown. An interception with less than nine minutes remaining extinguished any hope of a Patriots comeback, and a subsequent pick-six sealed their fate. Maye’s performance was a stark contrast to the expectations surrounding the young quarterback.

Walker Runs to MVP Honors

In a game largely defined by defensive dominance, Seattle running back Kenneth Walker III emerged as the offensive standout. Walker rushed for 135 yards on 27 carries, becoming the first player to surpass 100 rushing yards in a Super Bowl since Damien Williams in 2020. He amassed 94 rushing yards in the first half, the second-most by a player in the first half of a Super Bowl since Timmy Smith’s record-breaking performance in 1988. Walker also contributed with two receptions for 26 yards. His consistent running attack provided a crucial element to Seattle’s offensive strategy and ultimately earned him the Super Bowl LX MVP award.
