Super Typhoon Pepito’s Devastation: Nearly 500,000 Families Affected in the Philippines

Families affected by recent powerful storms in the Philippines have reached 495,788, according to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC). This information was released in an update on Tuesday.
The storms impacting these families include Nika (Toraji), Ofel (Usagi), and Pepito (Man-yi). These storms have displaced families in seven regions: Regions 1, 2, 3, Calabarzon, Mimaropa, Region 5, and the Cordillera Administrative Region.
Currently, about 111,549 families reside in evacuation centers. Another 47,736 families are displaced outside of these centers. The agency has not reported any deaths from the typhoons yet. There are reports of around 25 injuries, but only two cases from Region 5 are undergoing validation.
Damage assessments indicate that 11,759 houses were affected across Regions 1, 2, 3, 5, and the Cordillera Administrative Region. Among these, 10,234 homes were partially damaged, while 1,525 homes were totally destroyed.
Agriculture losses amount to PHP8.64 million across Regions 1 and 3. Infrastructure damage is significantly higher, estimated at PHP469.85 million in Regions 2, 3, and the Cordillera Administrative Region.
