Supercar Showdown: Aston Vantage, Ferrari Roma, and Porsche 911 – Which Icon Reigns Supreme

Supercar Showdown: Aston Vantage, Ferrari Roma, and Porsche 911 – Which Icon Reigns Supreme

November 2, 2024 Catherine Williams News

The eerily calm 911 Turbo S

The more the driver gives his all, the more the Porsche 911 Turbo S’s extraordinary potential becomes apparent. Maneuverability is extremely clear and behavior is easy to predict. There’s no need to turn off stability control completely.

There is no pretense of suddenly losing traction or violently lifting the front nose. It follows the road closely and is eerily calm. As long as you’re running at a slightly faster pace, about 70% of your ability, you’ll be captivated by the pure experience.

When you approach 90%, you will be overwhelmed by the amazing performance. Sublime dynamic abilities that had been hidden until then are revealed. However, the sense of immersion is somewhat lacking at around 80%, which is where you want to enjoy it most.

There is no doubt that the 911 Turbo S is the fastest of the three. However, if you’re looking for something more than absolute speed as a grand tourer, you can’t deny that it’s a little lacking.

When I switched to the Vantage, I noticed that the amount of information transmitted to the steering wheel was poor. Even though Aston Martin has revised the internals to give it a richer feel.

The violent torque of the V8 engine is also a bit overwhelming. Like Porsche, I want a personality that pursues the rev limit.

The brakes of the Ferrari Roma are a little sensitive. I didn’t get used to this until the end. On the other hand, the F154 type unit becomes sweeter the more you turn it. Acceleration from 0 to 100km/h takes 3.4 seconds, which is less than the 2.7 seconds of the 911 Turbo S, but it still gives you goosebumps every time you shift gears.

The grandeur of Rome powered by a dynamic V8 engine

The accelerator pedal has one of the longest strokes in a mass-produced car. I also like the effectiveness of the spring. This can be said to be a feature of Ferrari. The feeling of operating the dynamic V8 engine while feeling this delicacy with your right foot is nothing short of spectacular.

If you’re looking for sharpness on the road, turn the Manettino dial and select Race mode. Traction control intervention is suppressed, and you can enjoy the enthusiastic driving experience.

The process is similar in the 911 Turbo S and Vantage, which accelerate quickly when you kick the gas pedal. However, in the case of Roma, the tail of the body is slightly sunken, giving the feeling that it is attacking the very edge of traction.

At the exit of each curve, the Roma responds with energy as you press down on the aluminum pedal. The remaining two cars are not as emotional.

As I rode and compared the three cars on a sunny afternoon that exceeded my expectations, I began to feel that stability was a major deciding factor. Not just stability during acceleration, but overall maneuverability.

Clearly, that’s the strength of the 911 Turbo S. On the other hand, Vantage and Roma seem to be taking a slight step back.

Vantage is highly stable and has a low sense of speed.
