James Gunn reveals lobo’s Vital Role in Supergirl

Writer and director James gunn has shed light on the importance of Lobo, played by jason Momoa, in the upcoming DC Universe film, Supergirl. Gunn revealed that Lobo’s presence was instrumental in helping the creative team develop the film’s storyline during an interview on the official DC Studios podcast.
Gunn also confirmed that Schoenaerts will portray krem, the primary antagonist in Supergirl. krem is based on the villain from the eight-part graphic novel series, Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, which heavily inspired the film. Initially, the movie was titled after the comic book series, but Gunn stated they opted for the simpler title, Supergirl.

The inclusion of Lobo in the film is a nod to the original plans for the Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow comic series. Writer Tom King had initially intended to feature the character in the graphic novel. Gunn explained that Lobo helps to create a through-line for the film’s narrative.

“Woman of Tomorrow in the comics, is a bunch of little stories,” Gunn said. “And we needed to create one through-line,one three-act,more conventional story. So, Lobo helps us to do that.”
