MERIP Reflects on Legacy of Joe Stork and Community support
The Middle East Research and Data Project (MERIP) recently held its annual conference in Washington, DC, commemorating the life and work of its co-founder and longtime editor, joe Stork, who passed away in 2023. The conference, and a subsequent gathering at Busboys and Poets, highlighted MERIP’s enduring commitment to critical analysis and community building.
Attendees, including staff, contributors, and colleagues, shared reflections on Stork’s pivotal role in fostering a supportive environment for rigorous scholarship on the Middle East. the event underscored the importance of community support in sustaining MERIP’s work, especially in an increasingly remote working landscape.
MERIP’s Recent Accomplishments
Over the past year, MERIP has continued to produce impactful research and expand its reach. Key achievements include the publication of three issues of the Middle East Report: Issue 313, issue 314,and a combined Issue 315-316. The organization also launched The MERIP Podcast and organized events to engage a wider audience.
