Supreme Court Upholds Life Sentences in Brutal 2016 Double Murder Case
Cirebon, Indonesia – the Indonesian Supreme Court has rejected the petitions for judicial review filed by eight individuals convicted in the brutal 2016 murders of Vina and Eky in Cirebon, West Java. The court’s decision upholds the life sentences handed down to seven of the perpetrators and the eight-year sentence given to a juvenile offender.The horrific crime shocked the nation in August 2016. Vina, just 16 years old at the time, and her boyfriend Eky were riding a motorcycle when they were attacked by a group of assailants. The attackers, armed with bamboo poles, chased the couple, forcing them to crash near Jembatan Kepongpongan bridge.
The victims were then taken to a secluded area near SMPN 11 Kota cirebon, where they were brutally beaten and Vina was sexually assaulted. In a chilling attempt to cover up their crime, the perpetrators staged the scene to resemble a traffic accident.
Police swiftly apprehended eight suspects.Seven were sentenced to life in prison: Rivaldi Aditya Wardana, Eko Ramadhani, Hadi Saputra, Jaya, eka Sandy, Sudirman, and Supriyanto. Saka Tatal, who was 15 at the time of the crime, received an eight-year sentence due to his status as a minor.
