A former Navy service member has been charged in connection with a series of attacks in the Atlanta area that resulted in the deaths of two women and left a homeless man critically injured, according to law enforcement officials.
The suspect, identified as 26-year-old Olaolukitan Adon Abel, was arrested in Troup County after investigators used license plate recognition technology to track his vehicle following the attacks. Abel, who was born in the United Kingdom but became a U.S. Citizen in 2022, is facing multiple charges including murder, aggravated assault, and weapons violations.
One of the victims has been identified as 40-year-old Lauren Bullis, a Department of Homeland Security employee who was shot and stabbed while walking her dog on Battle Forest Drive in DeKalb County. Family members described Bullis as an avid runner who frequently shared her races online, with one relative calling her “such a special person.”
Investigators say the attacks began with a fatal shooting outside a Checkers restaurant on Wesley Chapel Road, followed by another shooting in Brookhaven, before concluding with the attack on Bullis. The authorities have stated that the attacks appear to be random in nature.
Brookhaven Police Chief Brandon Gurley said, “It is apparent to us that this was a completely random attack,” echoing the assessment of federal officials involved in the investigation. The suspect’s criminal history and background are currently under review as part of the ongoing proceedings.
Abel is currently in custody and awaiting further legal proceedings. No additional details regarding potential motives or connections between the suspect and victims have been released by authorities at this time.
