Suspect Arrested for Shooting Police Officer in Antofagasta

The August 12 shooting prompted a multi-agency manhunt led by the Public Ministry and specialized police units, resulting in four total arrests linked to the assault. Investigative work on the case was carried out jointly with the Public Ministry, utilizing specialized units including OS9, OS7, SEBV, and Labocar. General Cristian Montre Soto, the head of the Antofagasta Carabineros Zone, stated that the operation combined tactical intelligence and evidentiary analysis to locate the alleged shooter.

That was crucial to detain one of the subjects who would be the material author of this vile and cowardly attack, who also maintained two active judicial warrants and an expulsion order from the country.

Multiple Arrests and Ongoing Manhunt for Second Suspect

Beyond the alleged gunman, law enforcement detained three additional individuals on charges of acting as accessories to the crime. According to police findings, these three suspects allegedly facilitated the primary suspect’s escape and subsequent concealment following the shooting. Authorities confirmed that one of the three alleged accomplices also carried an active expulsion order. Following their apprehension, the court placed the primary suspect and the three alleged cover-ups into preventive detention. Police operations remain active as investigators search for a second person of interest believed to be involved in the assault. General Montre issued a direct warning to anyone attempting to shelter the remaining fugitive, noting that three individuals are already facing charges specifically for harboring the first suspect. Judicial proceedings for the four detained individuals continue under the direction of the Public Ministry in Antofagasta.
