Linn Svahn, the 25-year-old Swedish cross-country skiing phenom, finished second in the overall World Cup last season, narrowly beaten by American star Jessie Diggins. Svahn also clinched the sprint cup, cementing her status as a force to be reckoned with in the sport.

This year, the focus has shifted towards the World Cup, with various factors, including illness, affecting winter competitors. Despite her 16 individual World Cup victories, Svahn is still chasing her first championship medal. The World Cup in Oberstdorf 2021 was marred by shoulder problems, and the Beijing Olympics in 2022 did not take place. The World Cup in Planica 2023 ended with two fourth-place finishes for Svahn.

In a candid interview, Svahn shared her feelings about her career, stating, “I think I feel that I will have those medals, sometime. Sure, aiming for the most number of World Cup victories in Sweden is ever one thing. Finally, a career is summed up at championship medals.”

– I would probably have been disappointed if I didn’t take one at some time. But hopefully I get the chance to drive it.

The first championship of three in a row (World Cup 2025, Olympics 2026, and World Cup 2027) is now on the horizon. Svahn reflected on her journey, saying, “There has been a hack on the road but to the last World Cup (Planica 2023) I met my form sunny that period that year and that is a security, she says now.”

In Falun, Linn Svahn defeated, among others, Kristine Stavås Skistad: 'I think she felt she had more control over me before the sprint than after the sprint.'

A highlight of the last World Cup was Svahn’s victory in the sprint in Falun. She described the win as an important part of her journey, saying, “It was an important part of the process, to feel that the training has led us to move the level quite a lot. It was a confirmation that the experience we had that I am more attractive and that it goes fast in the track was in agreement.”

Looking ahead to the upcoming World Cup, Svahn believes in strong Swedish dominance and identifies Norwegian Kristine Stavås Skistad as the top foreign competitor. She said, “You should join in and fight for the victory to even start in a Swedish women’s team. It is the competition that makes us so good. But then I am triggered a lot by the duel with Skistad, I think none of us want to be beaten by the other.”

The sprint kicks off the World Cup on Thursday, and Svahn is poised to make her mark. Her journey serves as an inspiration for athletes worldwide, showcasing the resilience and determination required to excel in competitive sports.

In the realm of cross-country skiing, Svahn’s story is a testament to the power of perseverance. Despite setbacks and challenges, she continues to push forward, driven by a deep-seated desire to achieve her goals. Her journey mirrors that of other American athletes who have faced adversity and emerged triumphant, such as Michael Phelps in swimming and Simone Biles in gymnastics.

Svahn’s dedication to her craft and her unwavering belief in her abilities serve as a reminder that success is not always measured by the number of victories but by the journey and the lessons learned along the way. As she prepares for the upcoming championships, Svahn’s story will undoubtedly inspire a new generation of athletes to pursue their dreams with unwavering determination.

In the competitive world of cross-country skiing, Svahn’s story is a beacon of hope and inspiration. Her journey underscores the importance of resilience, dedication, and the pursuit of excellence. As she continues to chase her first championship medal, Svahn’s story serves as a reminder that success is not always immediate but is often the result of perseverance and a deep-seated belief in one’s abilities.
