The leased Manchester City player came in at the break in Middlesbrough’s 1-0 victory over Sheffield United.

– Boro had dominated the first half, but struggled to find the decisive breakthrough. Nypan’s entry helped change it, and he was involved in the build-up of the Boro goal. Nypan really impressed.

That’s what Middlesbrough reporter Craig Johns tells VG.

– He replaced Sontje Hansen, a player who likes to drive ahead with the ball and challenge directly towards goal. In contrast, Nypan offered more of a midfield and attack connection, by pulling down into the rooms between to receive the ball and create dangers, Johns says.

Johns says Nypan got applause in the home debut – both on the stadium and in social media.

– What was also particularly gratifying about his performance, despite the fact that he is only 18 years old and new in English football, was how much effort he put down defensively towards the end when Sheffield United pressed for an equalization.

It also noted Middlesbrough manager Rob Edwards after the match.

– I thought Sverre was very good, and he was involved in the development of the goal. What pleased me most, except for the goal itself, was then Sverre blocked a shot in the sixteen meter and then celebrated breast against chest with Callum Brittain. It is an 18 year old boy who is really a pretty creative player. But he still celebrates blockages … He has already begun to adapt to England. I love it, Edwards said after the match.

The Boro boss explained why he switched to the Norwegian for the second half:

“We felt that Sverre would help us to connect the midfield and tieres, and get them more involved because of his qualities,” Edwards said.

The 18-year-old printed in the duels during Saturday’s match. Trondhjemmer Kurt Helge Reitan has been following “Boro” since the 1980s. The supporter believes NYPAN surprises.

– I was a little skeptical to begin with. The Championship is a more physical league, but it seems that he has taken it well. He gives a lot in the tackles, so he has surprised positively. Had he been too weak he would not have been able to play, but you see that he has the physical, says Reitan.

Nypan has not started any matches since he became part of the English club. The leader of the Norwegian supporter club for Middlesbrough, Henrik Høyer, believes Nypan will soon be a fixture from the start.

– One or two more games, I think he starts. After the deadline in the window you will see if he ends up playing. I feel confident that he will start matches, says Høyer.

The victory against Sheffield United makes Middlesbrough top the table in the Championship with four straight wins.
