Swansea City signs Cameron Burgess to Bolster Defender Role

Swansea City will add defender Cameron Burgess to their squad on July 1, 2025, securing him on a free transfer from Ipswich. Burgess opted to join Swansea, an Ipswich’s Championship rival, on a three-year deal that extends through June 2028, after his contract with Ipswich expires June 30.
Swansea Head Coach Alan Sheehan expressed his delight in signing the Australian international. Burgess played a key role in Ipswich’s consecutive promotions in the 2022-23 and 2023-24 seasons, ascending from League One to the Championship.However, the Tractor Boys were relegated after one season back in the Premier League.
Sheehan emphasized the experience Burgess brings to the team. “He is an experienced and consistent performer that has seen him rise up through the divisions in the last few years and become a full international,” Sheehan said.
“During our conversations Cameron really bought in to what we are trying to do at Swansea and I believe he will be a great addition for us on and off the pitch driving standards throughout the club, and we look forward to getting to work with him,” Sheehan added.
Swansea’s Director of Football, Richard Montague, said he is “very pleased” to add a player of Burgess’s experience to the squad ahead of the new season. Montague also highlighted the value of burgess’s top-flight experience, noting the competition they overcame to sign him.
“To bring in a player who has recently played Premier League football and been part of a successful period at his previous club is very positive,” Montague said. “There was considerable interest in Cameron from a number of clubs,and we are delighted he felt that Swansea City was the right choice for him.”
Ipswich released a brief statement thanking Burgess for his contributions,acknowledging his five goals in 127 appearances over four seasons.
