Swedish Minister: Family Neo-Nazi Link
Swedish Minister’s Relative’s Neo-Nazi Links Raise Concerns
Updated July 1, 2025
A relative of a Swedish government minister is reportedly involved in right-wing extremist and neo-Nazi activities. The individual is alleged to have attempted to recruit members for the nationalist and anti-Semitic group Det fria Sverige (The Free Sweden) through social media.
The family member also allegedly collaborated with an activist from the Nordic resistance Movement and participated in events with Aktivklubb Sverige, another neo-Nazi organization.
Kim Hakkarainen, a security expert with a background in Sweden’s Military Intelligence and Security Service, described the situation as ”serious,” suggesting the minister’s connection could pose a security risk. He said the minister’s family member could be used to harm Sweden.
The magazine Expo reports that the Swedish security police, Säpo, were unaware of the family connection. A Säpo spokesperson, Johan Wikström, declined to comment on specific intelligence matters.
Sweden’s current government consists of ministers from the Moderates, Liberals, and Christian Democrats. The far-right Sweden Democrats support the government but do not hold ministerial positions.
Expo says it contacted the minister but received no response. The magazine linked the family member to six social media accounts across four platforms. These accounts reportedly included images of the person posting racist stickers in a school and neighborhood.
The minister and other family members followed the person’s private account, as did individuals linked to the far-right. After Expo contacted the minister’s press secretary, the family member’s accounts were made private.
What’s next
The situation raises questions about potential security vulnerabilities and the minister’s awareness of their relative’s activities. Further examination and potential government response are anticipated.
