THE waitress believed too have accidentally ignited the New Year’s Eve inferno in the Swiss Alps was told to wear a crash helmet that blocked her from seeing the flames, a witness has claimed.
Cyane Panine was one of the 40 people killed in the devastating fire at Le Constellation, in the ski resort of Crans-Montana.
Footage that emerged in the hours following the tragedy showed the 24-year-old wearing the promotional helmet as she was lifted on to the shoulders of Mateo Lesguer,23,and the in-house DJ,who also died in the fire.
In her hands, she held two Champagne bottles with sparklers – which are thought to have caused the tragedy, in which another 116 people were injured.

Waitress Who Died After Ceiling Collapse Was Unaware of Danger, Court Hears
A young waitress who died after a ceiling collapsed at a French champagne cellar was unknowingly put in harm’s way, her lawyer told a court Wednesday. Cyane, whose last name has not been widely released, was asked by her employer to help move champagne bottles in the basement shortly before the accident.
“She was never informed of the ceiling’s danger and received no safety training,”
said Sophie Haenni, representing the victim’s family. Haenni also stated that Cyane “wasn’t supposed to be serving at the tables” and was directed to the basement by Jessica Moretti.
According to Haenni, Jessica Moretti requested Cyane’s assistance due to a large champagne order.cyane followed instructions in front of a manager, unaware of the potential risk.
Jessica Moretti is currently on trial alongside her husband, Jacques Moretti, 49, who remains in pre-trial detention for at least the next three months. Jacques Moretti has a prior criminal record, having served time in prison for previous offenses, including a history as an ex-pimp.
Despite claims by both Morettis that Cyane was like a “stepdaughter” and “sister” to them, evidence suggests otherwise. Haenni revealed that Cyane had previously contacted “the workers’ protection service” to report concerns about her employment conditions with the morettis.
