Swiss Women’s Football League Sees Mixed Results in Recent Matches

The Swiss Women’s Nationalliga B and Super League Women experienced a flurry of activity this past week, with several matches delivering compelling results and shifting the league standings. From high-scoring affairs to closely contested battles, the league showcased the growing talent and competitive spirit of Swiss women’s football.

In a match between two teams vying for position near the top of the table, FC Schlieren and FC Wil played to a 1-1 draw. Kathrin Rohr opened the scoring for Schlieren in the 59th minute, but Julia Kressig responded for Wil just nine minutes later, securing a point for the visitors. The draw, however, doesn’t significantly alter Wil’s position in the league.

FC Ostermundigen secured a decisive victory over FC Oerlikon/Polizei, winning 3-1 in front of 155 spectators. Oerlikon took an early lead through Manar Benslama, scoring in the 18th minute. However, Ostermundigen mounted a comeback in the second half, with Andrea Gretz leveling the score in the 64th minute, assisted by Lia Mischler. Noemi Eli then put the home side ahead in the 75th minute and Gretz sealed the win with another goal in added time, the 93rd minute, assisted by Eli.

FC Winterthur faced a tough challenge in Ticino, ultimately falling to FC Lugano 3-2. Elena Van Niekerk gave Winterthur the lead in the 33rd minute, but Lugano quickly responded with a goal from Mathilda Andreoli in the 56th minute. Van Niekerk struck again a minute later, restoring Winterthur’s advantage. However, Lugano fought back, equalizing through a free kick from Antonella Albertini in the 60th minute. Andreoli then secured the victory for Lugano with her second goal in stoppage time.

FC Wädenswil delivered a dominant performance against FC Solothurn, winning 6-0. Jessica Berger opened the scoring in the 8th minute, and Romy Geiger doubled the lead in the 31st minute. Berger added her second goal in the 36th minute, followed by another from Geiger in the 41st minute. The second half continued in the same vein, with Linda Krienbühl scoring in the 72nd minute and converting a penalty in the 88th minute to complete the rout. Solothurn, fielding only 12 players, remain on one point.

FC Sion demonstrated their strength with a 2-0 victory over FC Küssnacht a/R. Maeva Fontannaz opened the scoring in the 2nd minute with a precise free kick and doubled their lead just five minutes later. Küssnacht had opportunities to respond, but Claudia Lourenco Rodrigues missed a penalty in the 42nd minute, dashing their hopes of a comeback.

Looking at head-to-head statistics, Winterthur Women have generally fared well against Schlieren, winning 3 out of their last 6 encounters, with Schlieren winning 2 and 1 ending in a draw. In those matches, Winterthur scored 10 goals to Schlieren’s 7. Recent form indicates Winterthur Women have a 58% win rate averaging 4.33 points per match, while Schlieren have a 50% win rate and average 3.63 points per match.

The league continues to showcase a high level of competition, with teams battling for position as the season progresses. The results from this week demonstrate the unpredictable nature of the Nationalliga B and Super League Women, promising an exciting finish to the campaign.
