The Switch 2 storage problem
While the Switch 2 has 256 GB of built-in storage, that may not be enough for larger third-party games.
Just four games could fill the console’s storage: Split fiction (69 GB), Cyberpunk 2077 (59 GB), Hitman World of Assassination: Signature Edition (59 GB), and Yakuza 0 Director’s Cut (53 GB). Games coming later this year, such as Madden NFL 26, Elden Ring: Tarnished Edition, Borderlands 4, Final Fantasy 7 Remake Integrade and Star Wars Outlaws, are expected to have similar or larger file sizes.
Nintendo’s games appear to require less space. Mario Kart World is about 22 GB, and Donkey Kong Bananza is 8.5 GB.
Switch 2 owners may need to purchase a MicroSD Express card. Doubling the Switch 2 storage with a card from Lexar, SanDisk, or Samsung costs $70 to $75, while a 1 TB card is about $200. Walmart’s Onn brand is about half the price. Reddit users have reported that Onn cards are rebranded Lexar cards.
