Switzerland’s Federal Roads Office (ASTRA) anticipates significant traffic disruptions across the country as summer holidays begin. School breaks in cantons such as Basel-City,Geneva,and Vaud start June 29,with others following in July,leading to increased congestion,especially on weekends.
ASTRA warns that the A2 motorway and regions around Zurich, Bern, Basel, Lucerne, and Lugano will be particularly affected. The Gotthard Tunnel and San Bernardino road are also expected to experience heavy traffic. Southbound routes will be congested in July and August, while northbound traffic will peak from mid-July to mid-September. Weekends with good weather will likely see increased traffic nationwide.

- A1: Geneva (including Bardonnex border crossing), Kirchberg – Schönbühl, Härkingen – Wangen, Aarau-West – Birrfeld
