Tournament hosts, Switzerland kick off their Group A campaign at UEFA Women’s Euro 2025 against two-time winners, Norway.

With Switzerland and Norway both considered favourites to advance from the opening group, this match is expected to be potentially crucial as to who will likely finish as group winners come the end of this stage.

Team News

Tottenham defender, Luana Buhler has withdrawn from Switzerland’s squad due to her lack of match fitness after struggling with knee injuries this season.

Norway will be without VfL Wolfsburg defender, Guro Bergsvand due to an unspecified injury which has forced her to pull out of the squad.

Marthine Østenstad has consequently replaced Bergsvand in the squad in what will be her debut appearance at a major international tournament.

When is Kick-Off?

Switzerland face Norway at St Jakob-Park, Basel, at 9pm CEST (8pm UK Time), live on BBC One in the UK.

Stat Attack

  • This is Switzerland’s first meeting against Norway at UEFA Women’s Euro Finals.
  • Norway have won all four previous meetings against Switzerland across all stages of this competition (W4), which came in Qualifying for 1993 and 2001 editions with 21 goals netted without conceding.
  • Switzerland have won just one of seven matches in 2025 coming into this tournament (W1, D2, L4), of which two of their four defeats came against Norway in the Women’s Nations League.
  • Norway have won just one of their last five matches in all competitions (W1, D2, L2).

Prediction

As tournament hosts, Switzerland will have the belief of having seen what Netherlands and England achieved when they hosted the last two UEFA Women’s Euros but given their form, they need a solid defensive effort just to give themselves a shot at getting out of the group.

Norway meanwhile exited at this stage in both of those two tournaments in 2017 & 22 respectively but should be much stronger than they were at the 2023 Women’s World Cup, where they narrowly got out of their group only to lose to Japan in the Round of 16.

They also beat the Swiss in both of their Nations League meetings and if they bring that same quality, I can see them having the edge over the out-of-form hosts.

Prediction: Switzerland 1-2 Norway
