Sydney Boy Severely Injured‌ in Shark Attack, Family Prepares for “Worst Possible Outcome”

The family of 12-year-old Nico antic is bracing for the “worst possible outcome” after he sustained​ devastating leg injuries in a⁤ shark attack at⁤ a⁣ Sydney beach on Sunday, January 18, 2026.

A fundraising campaign organized by a family friend, Victor Pineiro, has raised ⁢over AU$120,000​ (NZ$138,000) to assist the ‌Antic⁢ family with expenses.The ​fundraiser was established ⁢following the attack, which left Nico fighting for his life.

This incident was the first of four shark bites‍ reported in New South Wales ‍within a 72-hour period,prompting widespread⁣ concern​ and the closure of numerous beaches. Multiple beaches ​were closed as a precaution.

“Despite all efforts, this heart-breaking event has led to the worst possible outcome,” pineiro stated.

Kate Barley, the mother of 15-year-old‍ Khai ⁤Cowley who died in a shark attack⁢ off South Australia’s Yorke Peninsula in December ​2023, ⁤offered her support to the Antic family. ‌ “From one mum to ⁤another, my heart is holding you ⁤so tightly,” Barley wrote. “I lost my beautiful boy Khai in a shark attack in SA… ⁤and I know how ⁣unbearable this waiting and fear can be.”

Four shark ⁣attacks ⁤occurred in 48 hours, leading to the beach closures.
