Sydney Grandfather’s Kidnapping and Murder: Two Men Arrested

Two men, aged 24 and 29, have been arrested in connection with the alleged kidnapping and murder of 85-year-old Chris Baghsarian, a Sydney grandfather whose remains were discovered earlier this week. The arrests, made on Tuesday, February 24th, follow an eleven-day search for Mr. Baghsarian after he was mistakenly abducted from his North Ryde home on February 13th.

Police raided homes in Kenthurst and Castle Hill, seizing electronic devices and clothing as part of their investigation. A third search warrant was executed in Lake Macquarie, also yielding electronic devices. The men are currently being questioned at Riverstone Police Station and are expected to be charged with kidnapping and murder.

The discovery of human remains near a golf course in Pitt Town led police to confirm the identity of the deceased as Mr. Baghsarian. According to police, the abduction was a case of mistaken identity. Investigators believe up to three people may have been involved in the plot, suggesting further arrests are possible.

The lawyer representing one of the arrested men indicated his client was likely not the “mastermind” behind the alleged crime. Details surrounding the motive and the full extent of the alleged plot remain under investigation.

The case has drawn significant attention in Sydney and across Australia. The investigation involved a large-scale search effort and highlighted the vulnerability of individuals to such crimes. Authorities are continuing to piece together the events leading up to Mr. Baghsarian’s abduction and death.

The arrests come as Australia grapples with other significant news events. Federal Treasurer Jim Chalmers has signaled potential “belt tightening” in the upcoming May budget, according to reports. Elsewhere, authorities are investigating a bomb threat targeting a Chinese dance group performing in Australia, and a landmark royal commission into antisemitism has begun following a shooting in Bondi.

In a separate incident, the search continues for Dezi Freeman, a man accused of shooting two police officers in August, who fled into bushland.

The investigation into Mr. Baghsarian’s death is ongoing, and police are appealing for any information that may assist in their inquiries. The case underscores the importance of vigilance and community cooperation in ensuring public safety.
