The highly anticipated sequel to The Devil Wears Prada has undergone a notable change ahead of its release, with actress Sydney Sweeney’s cameo being removed from the final cut of the film. The decision, described by sources as a “creative decision,” was made during post-production after the actress had filmed a scene that was ultimately deemed not to fit the film’s structure.

According to reporting from Entertainment Weekly, Sweeney had filmed a three-minute scene that was intended to appear early in the movie, during a sequence involving Emily Charlton, the character played by Emily Blunt. In the scene, Sweeney portrayed herself as a celebrity client visiting a Dior office where Charlton, now in a senior position, was assisting her with wardrobe selections. The scene was meant to serve as part of Charlton’s professional introduction in the sequel.

However, despite the scene being filmed, it was later removed from the final edit. A source close to the production told Entertainment Weekly that while the team appreciated Sweeney’s participation, the sequence “did not work structurally” with the rest of the film’s opening. The insider noted that the decision to cut the scene was difficult, given the effort involved, but ultimately necessary for the film’s pacing and narrative flow.

The removal of Sweeney’s cameo was first reported by outlets including Dark Horizons and The Independent, which cited the Entertainment Weekly exclusive as their source. Subsequent coverage from outlets such as ScreenRant and Elle magazine echoed the explanation, emphasizing that the cut was not due to any controversy or performance issue but rather a editorial choice made in the interest of the film’s overall coherence.

Sweeney’s involvement in the project had generated attention prior to the film’s release, particularly after she was photographed on set in August 2025. At the time, her presence fueled speculation about potential cameo appearances in the sequel, which brings back original cast members Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway, Emily Blunt, and Stanley Tucci two decades after the 2006 hit.

The sequel, based on Lauren Weisberger’s 2003 novel of the same name, continues to follow the world of high fashion through the lens of Runway magazine. Streep reprises her role as the formidable Miranda Priestley, a character widely believed to be inspired by former Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour. The film is scheduled for release in May 2026, marking two decades since the original premiered.

While Sweeney’s scene will not appear in the final version, the actress remains active in several upcoming projects. These include the continued third season of Euphoria, a role in Netflix’s Gundam film, and other film and television projects such as Split Fiction, The Housemaid’s Secret, Custom of the Country, and I Pretended to Be a Missing Girl.

As of now, neither the film’s production team nor Sydney Sweeney’s representatives have issued further public comment on the specifics of the scene’s removal. The final cut of The Devil Wears Prada 2 will proceed without the sequence, with the creative team emphasizing that the decision was made to serve the story’s integrity.
