Essex, Lancashire Claim First women’s T20 Blast Victories

Essex and lancashire both celebrated their first wins of the season in the Women’s T20 Blast on Monday. Essex triumphed over Somerset, while Lancashire defeated Durham in their respective matches.
At Chelmsford, Essex posted 150, led by wicketkeeper Lauren Winfield-Hill’s impressive 42 off 25 balls. Somerset’s Ellie Anderson took three wickets for 19 runs, including the crucial wicket of Essex captain Grace Scrivens.
Olivia Barnes made two catches, one a stunning grab at square leg to dismiss Lissy Macleod, before a hand injury forced her to leave the field. Somerset struggled in their reply, falling to 29-4 after Eva Gray bowled Sophie Luff. A brief partnership between Fran Wilson and Alex Griffiths offered a glimmer of hope, but Abtaha Maqsood dismissed Wilson, ending any chance of a comeback.
Esmae MacGregor then took four wickets for just eight runs, a career-best T20 performance, as Somerset were bowled out for 84, 66 runs short of the target. Barnes was unable to bat due to her injury.
Lancashire Thunder, rebounding from a previous defeat, secured an 18-run victory against Durham at Chester-le-Street. Lancashire scored 140-7 in their 20 overs, with captain Ellie Threlkeld scoring 48 and Aisla Lister adding an unbeaten 42.
Durham’s chase began strongly, with Suzie Bates and Katherine Fraser putting on 61 for the first wicket. However, Lancashire fought back, taking nine wickets for 61 runs. Grace Potts led the charge with four wickets for 33 runs,supported by Sophie Morris,Sophie Ecclestone,and Grace Johnson,who each took two wickets.
