Lancashire secured a thrilling victory against Surrey in the Women’s T20 Blast final, showcasing impressive batting and bowling performances. The match followed Lancashire’s earlier seven-wicket win against The Blaze in a rain-affected semi-final, setting the stage for the clash with Surrey, who had narrowly defeated Warwickshire by three wickets.
Surrey captain Smith’s decision to field first initially seemed promising, but Lancashire’s kesteven, 20, quickly seized control. She raced to her first senior fifty off just 37 balls, propelling the Red Rose to 86-0 within the first 10 overs. Despite Lamb’s subsequent dismissal, Lancashire maintained their aggressive approach.
Off-spinner Kalea Moore then struck, removing Seren Smale for 19 and Kesteven shortly after. Morris contributed a quickfire 27 off 12 balls, including three fours and a six, before Moore claimed her wicket, finishing with 4-27.
Surrey’s chase began explosively, with Chathli hitting Kate Cross for two sixes, only to be bowled the very next ball. Smith followed with four consecutive boundaries off Grace Potts before being caught out. Ecclestone then took control, dismissing Paige Scholfield and Emma Jones in successive balls, restricting Surrey to 75-4 at the halfway point.
As the required run rate climbed, Franklin’s enterprising 41 off 36 balls ended with a catch, giving Ecclestone her third wicket and leaving Surrey at 105-6. Despite defiant hitting from Moore, who remained 22 not out, and Ryana Macdonald-Gay, who scored 18, Ecclestone sealed the victory by removing Macdonald-Gay.
