T20 World Cup 2026: Oman vs Ireland – Toss & Playing XIs Revealed
Colombo, Sri Lanka – Oman captain Jatinder Singh won the toss and elected to field against Ireland in a Group B match of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026, held at the Sinhalese Sports Club ground in Colombo on Saturday, .
The decision comes as both teams seek their first win of the tournament. Oman suffered a defeat against Sri Lanka on Thursday at the same venue, while Ireland were convincingly beaten by Australia at the R Premadasa Stadium.
Oman made two changes to their lineup. Ashish Odedara replaced Wasim Ali in the batting order, after Ali’s scores of 3 and 27 in the previous two matches. In the bowling attack, Shakeel Ahmed came in for Jay Odedra, who conceded 14 runs from his single over against Sri Lanka.
Ireland were forced into two changes due to a knee-ligament injury to Paul Stirling, which has ended his participation in the competition. Tim Tector earned his sixth T20I cap, stepping into the middle order, and experienced left-arm quick Josh Little replaced Ben Calitz. Lorcan Tucker is captaining Ireland in Stirling’s absence.
Sam Topping has been added to the Ireland squad as a replacement for Stirling, but is not currently in the playing XI.
The teams lined up as follows:
Ireland: Ross Adair, Tim Tector, Harry Tector, Lorcan Tucker (capt, wk), Curtis Campher, George Dockrell, Gareth Delany, Mark Adair, Barry McCarthy, Matthew Humphreys, Josh Little
Oman: Aamir Kaleem, Jatinder Singh (capt), Hammad Mirza, Ashish Odedara, Mohammad Nadeem, Jiten Ramanandi, Vinayak Shukla (wk), Nadeem Khan, Sufyan Mehmood, Shah Faisal, Shakeel Ahmed.
Jatinder Singh explained his decision to bowl first, stating that the pitch is new and he wants to capitalize on early movement. “We’re gonna bowl first because We see a new pitch. We want to focus on small things, and we want to bat properly. We never expected the bounce at the SSC. If you lose early wickets, your head is gone,” he said.
Lorcan Tucker expressed his confidence in batting first, believing the pitch conditions will favor his team. “The pitch is looking good, and batting first is not bad. We see this as an opportunity to get going. We have guys who can perform well, and hopefully they will do their best today,” Tucker stated.
Both Ireland and Oman will be looking to secure their first victory in the tournament, hoping to reignite their campaigns and build momentum for the remaining matches. The match at the Sinhalese Sports Club promises to be a crucial encounter for both sides.
