Taco Bell Cologne: Opening Date Announced for Germany’s First Public Restaurant

Taco Bell will open its first public restaurant in Germany on Oct. 3, 2026, launching at Hohenzollernring 50 in Cologne after overcoming construction delays that pushed back its initial September rollout. The US fast-food chain is expanding into the German market by partnering with regional franchise developers rather than relying on a single nationwide operator, according to reports from the industry publication L’Express-Franchise.

Construction crews have spent weeks transforming the former Sausalitos restaurant space in the heart of Cologne’s inner city, replacing the old facade with the brand’s signature signage. Operators initially scheduled a grand opening for Sept. 24, 2026, but postponed the launch alongside a planned house-warming party because interior renovation work was not finished on time, company officials announced. The company scheduled an influencer and VIP opening for 11 a.m. on Oct. 3, followed by the public grand opening at 3 p.m.

Regional Franchise Expansion Strategy in Germany

Prior to this expansion, Taco Bell operated locations in Germany exclusively inside US military bases, which are restricted from public entry. A previous attempt to establish a broader retail presence in the country stalled in May 2025 following disagreements with an initial partner.

To build out its retail footprint this time, the corporation divided Germany among six regional area developers instead of signing a single nationwide franchise agreement, as reported by L’Express-Franchise. The Feel Better Holding company, based in Koblenz and led by entrepreneurs Peter Gries and Lars Krämer, secured the rights for Cologne and the Rhineland. Their territory spans from Bonn to Kleve, with Krämer noting that Cologne fits the brand identity exceptionally well.

Marketing Campaigns and Global Background

Taco Bell Deutschland promoted the upcoming launch on Instagram in late August using the promotional slogan, “Von California nach Köllefornia.” Glen William Bell founded the chain in California in 1962, and the company currently operates approximately 9,000 restaurants globally. More than 22,000 individuals in the United States reportedly contracted illnesses linked to a parasite, with public health tracking pointing partly toward salad ingredients served by the fast-food chain.
