AMMAN, Jordan – The 2025 Hope and Dreams Sports Festival, a multi-sport ‌event centered around Taekwondo for refugees, wrapped up on May 3, showcasing athletic talent and fostering camaraderie⁣ among participants.

The festival, a ​joint effort by the ⁢World ‌Taekwondo Federation (WT) and the Taekwondo Humanitarian Foundation (THF), took place across multiple ⁤locations in Jordan, including the Zatari and Azraq refugee ‌camps, as well as Amman Sports City, from April⁣ 30 to ​May 3.

Refugees⁢ engaged in six pilot sporting ​events: Taekwondo, 3-on-3 basketball, Baseball 5, ⁤badminton, handball,‍ and weightlifting. These events‌ provided opportunities ⁢for friendship⁢ and athletic competition.

In Taekwondo, roughly 300⁢ athletes,‌ spanning ⁤children, youth, and adult categories, ‍took⁣ part. The Azraq refugee team distinguished itself in Baseball 5,defeating five jordanian ⁢teams.

The Azraq Baseball 5 team has been‌ granted a wild card entry to the 2026 Dakar Summer Youth ‍Olympics.

THF’s 10th Anniversary and Expansion Plans

According to WT President Cho Jung-won, the ⁤THF will celebrate ⁣its 10th ‌anniversary next year. “We plan to expand⁤ to 10 sports,” Cho said.

Since the THF’s inception in 2016, the WT‍ has been actively ⁣involved in sports programs⁣ for young people‍ residing ​in refugee camps.
