Jakarta – The long-running dispute between Indonesian comedian Sule and his former brother-in-law, Teddy Pardiyana, has reignited. After a period of relative calm, Pardiyana is once again pursuing legal avenues to determine the rightful heirs to the estate of the late Lina Jubaedah, filing a request with the Bandung Religious Court.
Teddy Pardiyana’s legal counsel, Wati Trisnawati, stated that as of today, there has been no response from Sule’s side regarding a potential mediation involving Sule, his children Rizky Febian and Putri Delina. “Yes, we haven’t received any communication from the opposing party as of yet,” Trisnawati said in a recent online interview.
Regarding the possibility of no mediation occurring within the next 30 days, as scheduled at the Bandung Religious Court, Trisnawati affirmed that the legal process will continue according to established procedures. “That is the right of the opposing party, whether they choose to attend or not. However, the petitioner is obligated to be present,” she explained.
Trisnawati emphasized that the purpose of this legal action isn’t to claim a share of the inheritance, but rather to clarify the legal status of all heirs. “Our intention isn’t to demand a portion of the inheritance. We want to work together to determine who the rightful heirs are. This has been ongoing for six years, and that’s all we’re asking for,” she clarified.
The renewed legal challenge has, predictably, sparked a wave of online harassment directed at Teddy Pardiyana. Trisnawati acknowledged this, stating that her client is accustomed to the psychological pressure resulting from the ongoing online abuse. “Pak Teddy is used to receiving negative comments and bullying, it’s become commonplace for him. However, we remain focused on the petition,” she said.
She reiterated that Pardiyana isn’t making excessive demands in this case. “We are not asking for anything unreasonable; we are simply requesting a determination of the heirs,” she concluded.
This latest development marks another chapter in a protracted and publicly scrutinized legal battle that began following the death of Lina Jubaedah in early 2020. The core of the dispute centers around the division of assets and the rightful inheritance of Bintang, the daughter of Lina and Teddy Pardiyana. Previous court rulings have addressed aspects of the inheritance, but Teddy Pardiyana continues to contest the arrangements, claiming insufficient provision.
The situation highlights the complexities of inheritance law in Indonesia, which draws from both civil law (inherited from the Dutch colonial period) and Islamic law (Sharia), depending on the religious affiliation of the deceased and their heirs. This duality can create ambiguity and fuel disputes, particularly when combined with deeply ingrained cultural norms surrounding family obligations and perceived fairness, as noted by legal experts.
Sule, a prominent figure in Indonesian entertainment, has consistently expressed his desire to protect the interests of his children from a previous marriage, Rizky Febian and Putri Delina. He has voiced frustration with the repeated legal challenges from Teddy Pardiyana, suggesting that his former brother-in-law should focus on securing his own financial stability and providing for his daughter, Bintang.
The case also underscores a recurring pattern in Indonesian celebrity estate disputes, as highlighted in recent reports. The lack of robust estate planning, even among high-profile individuals, often leads to protracted legal battles and public family conflicts. The ongoing saga serves as a cautionary tale for anyone navigating family wealth and inheritance in Indonesia, emphasizing the importance of proactive legal and financial planning.
The legal proceedings are expected to continue at the Bandung Religious Court, with the next hearing scheduled to determine whether mediation will take place. The outcome of this case will likely have significant implications for the future of the inheritance and the ongoing relationship between the families involved.
