The Court’s Decision
The Paris judicial court rejected the State’s request for a temporary blockage of the Shein site in France, deeming the measure “disproportionate”. This is a setback for the government, which has indicated it will not cease it’s efforts to address concerns surrounding the platform.
Details of the Case
The government announced friday evening that it would appeal the decision of the Paris judicial court. The court considered the request for blocking Shein disproportionate following the voluntary withdrawal of illicit products sold by the Asian e-commerce giant Shein. Specifically, the court declined to order measures to prevent the sale of items such as child pornography dolls, category A weapons, and unauthorized medicines.
The government stated, “Therefore, convinced of the systemic risk of the model linked to Shein, and at the request of the Prime Minister, the government will appeal this decision in the coming days.”
