Details of the Crime and Conviction
A 53-year-old man in Apure state,Venezuela,has been sentenced to 22 years and 6 months in prison for sexually assaulting his 11-year-old neighbor. The sentence was decreed by the 1st Trial Court on Violence against Women of Apure, as reported by the Prosecutor’s Office.
The crime occurred on November 7, 2023, in the Airport sector of the Mantecal parish, within the Muñoz municipality of Apure state. The perpetrator exploited the victim’s vulnerability while her mother was absent.
According to the Prosecutor’s Office, the man entered the girl’s home at night and entered her bedroom while she was sleeping. He then choked her until she lost consciousness before committing the assault.
Inquiry and Arrest
Upon regaining consciousness, the victim informed her mother and aunt of the attack.The victim’s aunt subsequently filed a complaint with the Bolivarian National Guard in Mantecal.
A commission was instantly formed, leading to the man’s arrest within hours. He was then placed under the authority of the Public Ministry.
Legal Proceedings and Charges
The 5th Prosecutor’s Office of Apure successfully prosecuted the case, securing a conviction for aggravated sexual violence against a particularly vulnerable victim, coupled with a continued threat. Evidence presented to the court supported these charges.
Following the presentation of evidence, the court found the accused guilty and ordered his confinement at the Mantecal GNB Campaign Command.
