Tai Tzu Ying Advances to Next Round in Hong Kong Badminton Open
Taiwan’s badminton queen Tai Tzu Ying finished 16th in the first round of the Super 500 Hong Kong Badminton Open today, defeating Isabel Rusley of the United States 21-10, 21-12.
Despite playing through injury, Tai Tzu Ying secured her spot in the next round, as she wishes.
Tai Tzu Ying faced off in the first round today against Roussili, who advanced from the qualifying round and is ranked 227th in the world. Early in the first game, Tai Tzu Ying was still testing her opponent’s ball, then when the two teams tied at 8-8, she finished the first game with 13-2.
After the start of the second game, Tai Tzu Ying took the initiative and gradually widened the gap in the middle of the game, tiring out her opponent in just 24 minutes.
Tai Tzu Ying’s opponent in the top 8 of the Taipei Open is Indonesia’s Putri Kusuma Wardani.
In an interview, Tai Tzu Ying said that her injuries still need to be dealt with every day, but that even if she tries her best, “I’m not sure how long I can last. I just have to work one hard game at a time.”
Judging from the draw, if Tai Tzu Ying can make it to the top four, she will have a good chance to face off again against her friend and fellow Thai player Ratchanok Intanon.
