Disney’s New Animated Short Captures Holiday Spirit
Disney’s latest animated short, Best Christmas Ever, launched this week and has quickly garnered attention, approaching 14 million views on YouTube as of November 14, 2023. The short tells the story of a young girl whose drawing magically comes to life after Santa Claus mistakenly identifies it as a Christmas wish. Veteran voice actor John Goodman, known for his work in Disney films like Monsters, inc. and The Princess and the Frog, lends his voice to the animated doodle.
Taika Waititi on the Heart of the Story
Director Taika Waititi emphasized the uniquely Disney element of the short, stating, “What makes this story uniquely Disney is the fact that it’s set in the world of a kid. It’s a kid and her new best friend, navigating the complex world together, and doing it just with the power of friendship and imagination.” Waititi is also currently working on a Sony Pictures adaptation of Kazuo Ishiguro’s novel, Klara and the Sun, scheduled for release in 2024 according to The Hollywood Reporter.
