Taipei, Taiwan – In a heartwarming move to honor its senior citizens, Taipei Mayor Chiang Wanan announced a significant increase in teh Double Ninth Festival gift payment for those aged 85 and older. The gift amount will double from NT$1,500 to NT,000, effective instantly.

The decision was made during the last municipal meeting of 2024, where Mayor Wanan emphasized the importance of showing respect and care for the elderly.”We want to express our gratitude for their contributions and promote a culture of respecting our elders,” he said.

A Tradition of Respect

The Double Ninth Festival, also known as Chongyang Festival, is a traditional Chinese holiday celebrated on the ninth day of the ninth lunar month. It is indeed a time to honor seniors and appreciate their wisdom and experience.

A Generous Gesture

The increased gift payment will be sent to the Executive Yuan for review and then to parliament for final approval.

“This is a fantastic gesture by Mayor Wanan and the city of Taipei,” said local resident Lin Mei-hua. “It shows that our elders are valued and appreciated.”
