Taiwan Business Leader Dies Suddenly in Mainland China
Xiamen, China – Zhu Shi, the Secretary-General of the Association for the Advancement of Industry and Commerce in Taiwan, passed away suddenly in Xiamen, China, on October 9th. Zhu was attending the 2024 Cross-Strait Entrepreneurs Annual Meeting when the incident occurred.
The Association confirmed Zhu’s passing, stating that he was last seen at the hotel for breakfast. When he failed to appear for the meeting and coudl not be reached by phone, concerns arose.
“Ther were no obvious signs of life,” the Association said in a statement.
The family is currently traveling to mainland China to assist with the arrangements. Local authorities are investigating the cause of death.
Zhu Shi was a prominent figure in taiwan’s business community. He held several key positions, including Deputy Permanent Representative of the World Trade Institution (WTO) delegation, Director of Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Hong Kong, and Director of the Planning Department of the Mainland Affairs Council. He was widely respected for his expertise in regional economic and trade negotiations.the Straits Exchange Foundation (SEF), a quasi-governmental organization responsible for cross-strait exchanges, expressed condolences and pledged full support to Zhu’s family.
“We immediately contacted the family upon receiving the news and will provide full assistance to manage the aftermath as per their needs,” the SEF stated.
