Huawei and SMIC, two major Chinese tech firms, may face hurdles in acquiring essential resources for artificial intelligence (AI) chip production. This follows the implementation of export controls by Taiwan.

Taiwan’s International trade Governance ⁢recently added Huawei,SMIC,and their subsidiaries to a list designating them as strategic high-tech commodities. ‍This action mandates that‍ Taiwanese businesses secure government approval before shipping any goods ‍to‍ these⁤ entities.

The restrictions could block Huawei and SMIC from ⁣accessing Taiwan’s plant construction technologies, materials, ‍and equipment. Experts suggest this could impede China’s progress in ⁣developing advanced AI semiconductors.
