Team Taiwan Celebrates Baseball Victory
Proposed National Baseball Day
Lawmakers have proposed making November 24 National Baseball Day. This move honors the national baseball team’s victory in the Premier12 championship. Additionally, there is a call to update the NT$500 bill design to feature the team.
Celebration with Fans
Following their win, the national team received a warm welcome from thousands of fans during a parade in Taipei. Players wore hoodies that said “Taiwan” as they rode military jeeps and trucks. Many fans expressed their excitement, noting the significance of this championship win for Taiwan baseball.
Legislative Actions
Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) Legislator Hsu Chih-chieh spearheaded the proposal for National Baseball Day, supported by 26 colleagues. Hsu emphasized that the day would not be a new holiday but a reminder of the team’s achievement and the need for sports development in Taiwan.
Banknote Design Changes
Legislators also suggested changing the portrait on the NT$500 bill to celebrate the team’s success in the championship. The central bank will assess this proposal carefully. Some lawmakers propose honoring other sports achievements, such as badminton, suggesting it is essential to recognize all sports milestones.
Funding for Sports Development
DPP Legislator Tsai Chi-chang, who is also the CPBL commissioner, urged lawmakers to approve the budget for sports development. He highlighted that funding played a vital role in the team’s success and urged cross-party support for the budget.
Support for Indigenous Athletes
The Council of Indigenous Peoples plans to host a banquet for the team and allocate NT$200 million to support indigenous athletes next year.
Commemorative Items
Chunghwa Post will issue stamps celebrating the Premier12 championship.
This collective recognition of the baseball team’s success reflects Taiwan’s passion for sport and community pride.
