TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — The Tallahassee Police Department announced the arrest of a suspect in connection with a fatal hit-and-run crash that occurred earlier this month in Northwest Tallahassee. Nigeria Grant, 24, was taken into custody on March 31, 2026, and has been charged with leaving the scene of a crash resulting in death.
The incident took place on March 5, 2026, in the area of West Tennessee Street and Junco Court. According to law enforcement, officers responded to a collision involving a sedan and a pedestrian. The driver of the vehicle fled the scene immediately following the impact. The pedestrian, later identified as Marvin Calhoun, sustained serious injuries during the crash and subsequently died at Tallahassee Memorial Hospital.
Investigation and Surveillance Footage
Following the crash, the Tallahassee Police Department’s Traffic Homicide Unit launched an investigation to identify the responsible driver. Authorities released photos of the vehicle in the weeks following the incident in hopes of generating public leads. According to a probable cause affidavit, detectives were able to identify the vehicle through the use of license plate readers, vehicle descriptions, and car insurance records.

The vehicle involved was identified as a black 2014 BMW 528i. Surveillance footage played a critical role in the investigation. Records indicate that the first 911 call regarding the crash was received at approximately 6:54 p.m. On the day of the incident. Eyewitness accounts reported seeing a black BMW leaving the crash scene.
Surveillance video from the Red Rapids Car Wash captured the vehicle entering the business at approximately 6:53 p.m. Court documents reveal that the footage shows the driver observing the front passenger’s side bumper and headlight area after entering the facility. The affidavit notes that the driver threw her hands up in the air, appearing frustrated or displeased with the damage. The vehicle was recorded leaving the business at approximately 6:55 p.m. And was observed traveling westbound at the same intersection at 6:58 p.m. With observable damage to the front right bumper and headlight area.
Based on this evidence, the Traffic Homicide Unit developed probable cause to make an arrest. On March 31, 2026, members of the U.S. Marshals Task Force located Grant and took her into custody.

Grant has been charged with leaving the scene of a crash involving a death. The arrest marks a significant development in the case, which had remained under active investigation since early March.
Recent Fatal Hit-and-Run Cases in Tallahassee
This arrest follows another high-profile fatal hit-and-run case in Tallahassee that reached a conclusion in early 2026. In a separate incident, Willis Trueblood was sentenced to eight years in prison on February 17, 2026, for a deadly hit-and-run that occurred in 2024. That crash resulted in the death of Florida State University student Ellie Sims, who was 20 years old at the time.
The crash involving Sims happened near the intersection of Lorene and Pensacola Street. Trueblood, who was 18 years old at the time of the arrest, entered a no contest plea in January 2026. While the sentencing guidelines suggested a 12-year sentence, the judge granted a downward departure. The Tallahassee Police Department had previously announced Trueblood’s arrest for leaving the scene of the fatal hit-and-run.
The convergence of these cases highlights ongoing concerns regarding pedestrian safety and driver accountability in the region. Following Sims’ death, an online petition to add a traffic light to the intersection near West Pensacola and Lorene Streets gained over 26,000 signatures. Students and parents had laid flowers and notes at the site of that crash in the days following the incident.
