Tap into the Truth: Uncovering the Mystery Behind Egypt’s Drinking Water Warning
Egyptian Cabinet Denies Water Contamination Rumors
On Wednesday, the Egyptian Cabinet of Ministers issued a statement after issuing a warning not to use the water for drinking purposes at certain times of the day, claiming that it was contaminated with a toxic microbe.
According to recent reports, audio messages were circulated on the WhatsApp application claiming that the water body has issued a warning notice not to use water for drinking purposes from 3 am to 10 pm due to contamination with a poisonous microbe.
However, the Holding Company for Potable Water and Wastewater (Government) denied the news, insisting that there was no truth to the water company issuing the warning and that the voice messages circulated were baseless.
The company emphasized that drinking water in all governorates of Egypt is completely safe and healthy, free of any harmful germs or contaminants, conforms to standard standards and specifications, and is monitored around the clock by laboratories and quality systems.
Mysterious Injuries and Hospitalizations in Aswan Governorate
The popularity of the alert has coincided with reports of mysterious injuries and the transfer of dozens of patients to hospitals in southern Egypt’s Aswan governorate over the past few days, for reasons that could not be precisely confirmed.
The Ministry of Health and Population explained in information posted on its social media accounts that since September 11, it has observed, “an increase in the rate of reporting and visitors to hospitals with nausea, vomiting and diarrhea.”
On September 16, the head of the Drinking Water and Sanitation Company and Aswan’s director general of health said in a joint press statement that there were no more than 28 cases of gastrointestinal disease in all hospitals in the governorate, explaining that they were “the result of the summer seasonal disease virus or consumption of contaminated food.”
As talk of rising infections escalated, Aswan Governor Ismail Kamal tasked a committee to visit drinking water centers to draw water samples and conduct their chemical analysis in specialized laboratories.
The head of the committee explained that he had sampled the drinking water and confirmed that it conformed to the specifications.
