Target Apologizes and Offers Reinstatement to Employee Fired Over Nametag Controversy
Target Employee Fired and Rehired Over Dress Code Dispute
Target has apologized to Denise Kendrick, a former employee in Fargo, North Dakota. She was fired after writing “trust in Jesus” on her nametag.
Kendrick explained that a manager told her she could not wear that nametag. She noted others had different themes on their nametags, such as rainbows, and insisted on keeping hers. The manager then terminated her employment.
Kendrick requested a written explanation for her firing, but the manager only provided a list of contact numbers for Target’s dress code policy. She felt confused because she wore Christian-themed clothing to work without issue before.
After reviewing the situation, Target concluded that Kendrick should not have been fired. They offered her job back and issued an apology. A spokesperson said they would address the actions of the involved manager and ensure proper adherence to policies moving forward.
Target’s employment policy states that they prohibit discrimination based on religious beliefs. It is unclear if Kendrick will accept the offer to return to work at the store.
