Tasmanian Cricket Eyes New Home at Royal Hobart golf Club
Hobart, Tasmania - Cricket Tasmania is moving forward with plans to build a state-of-the-art cricket Center for Excellence and Community facility at the Royal Hobart Golf Club (RHGC). The proposed development comes as the sport experiences rapid growth, particularly in womenS cricket and pathway programs.
“For several years Cricket Tasmania has been considering the infrastructure requirements for Tasmanian cricket’s future operations,” said Cricket Tasmania CEO Dominic Baker. “Bellerive oval (now Ninja Stadium) has played an crucial role, but it will continue to be our home for the immediate future and serve the needs of sport in southern Tasmania.”
The new facility, located at Seven Mile Beach, is envisioned as a hub for Tasmanian cricket, supporting the development of the sport at all levels. It woudl provide training facilities for Tasmania’s 55 contracted professional cricketers and 200 developing cricketers in Cricket Tasmania’s pathway programs.
“This is a strategic investment for the future,” Baker emphasized. “It will underpin the long-term growth of Tasmanian cricket, benefiting the broader Tasmanian cricket community that boasts 17 cricket associations, servicing over 72 competitions and 135 clubs.”
Cricket Tasmania and RHGC have initiated interaction with their respective members. Further details about the project will be shared early in the new year, leading up to a vote by RHGC members in early 2025.
